Witness the Evolution of the Legendary K2 Series Workstations!
History and the Evolution of the Kurzweil K Series on Irukka Online
Now in its fourth decade, Kurzweil’s celebrated K series continues to evolve.
In 1991, the Kurzweil K2000 introduced the Variable Architecture Synthesis Technology (VAST) synth engine and it proved to be a great success. Then, when the K2000 was superseded by the K2500 and K2600, VAST was updated and further extended with things such as the KB3 organ and KDFX effects.
However, it’s now been 14 years since Kurzweil killed off the K series, although they continued to develop VAST in instruments such as the PC3, PC4, Artis, and Forte. There are numerous differences between these and the Ks, but the one that seems most to differentiate them is the omission of sampling. Sure, sample playback was reintroduced in the PC3Kx series, but many Kurzweil lovers have been looking forward to the day when the company releases a new K with all of the facilities of its ’90s predecessors brought up to date with everything that the 21st Century can offer. And it is finally here – Gaint and Monster Keyboard workstation – K2700.
The Kurzweil K2700 was first introduced at the NAMM conference at the beginning of 2021. The Kurzweil K2700 boasts an updated version of its VAST(Variable Architecture Synthesis Technology) synthesis engine. Kurzweil K2700 will be arriving at the Nigerian Market via Irukka Online in a couple of weeks.

Pros
- Massive sound library
- Great for gigging and sound customization
- Reverb knob
- Incredibly deep and allows for musician growth
- Great-sized LCD screen
- Built-in audio interface
- FM
- Functions exceptionally well as a MIDI controller
- Has aftertouch
Cons
- Expensive
- Keys are on the lighter end
- On the heavier end
Note: I put heaviness as a con as most keyboardists I know prefer lighter weight keyboards as far as touring goes. My personal preference is that I don’t mind heavy keyboards, even when touring, as they are typically far more durable.
